Frequently Asked Questions
General
Steubenville Florida is more than the name of a conference, Steubenville is a city in Ohio that is home to Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS), a vibrant Catholic college rooted in the Franciscan tradition and dedicated to proclaiming Jesus Christ as “the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
Franciscan University hosted its first Steubenville Youth Conference in 1976, when 1,000 youth and young adults gathered on the campus in Steubenville, Ohio, for a weekend of prayer, praise, and reflection. In the summer of 2019, more than 50,000 teens participated in 25 different youth conferences across North America – discovering the richness of the Catholic Church and encountering the truth of Jesus Christ in Word and Sacrament.
Youth who will be entering Grade 9 in August 2023 up to those who graduated high school in June of 2023 can attend Steubenville Florida as a youth.
Group Leader – An adult responsible for organizing your trip and serving as the main contact for your group. Written and oral correspondence takes place between the Group Leader and the conference office. The Group Leader must be attending the conference and will be responsible for the entire group. The Group Leader must be 21 years of age or older and inline with the policies of the Diocese under the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.”
Adult Chaperone – An adult that is 21 years of age or older and inline with policies of the Diocese under the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.”
In order to effectively minister to your teens and for the safety of the youth and for the good of all involved in the conference, there must be at least one (Group Leader or Adult Chaperone) per eight youth/gender. Ex. For every 8 female youth at minimum 1 female chaperone. For every 8 male youth at minimum 1 male chaperone. Groups are unable to share chaperones with other groups in order to meet the minimum requirement of 1 adult (Group Leader or Adult Chaperone) per eight youth, per gender.
Young Adults entering Sophomore Year of College – 20 years of age are invited to attend the conference with your group. They may NOT be chaperones, suffice your male chaperone requirement or be counted as youth. As an alternative, they may attend with your group as “group assistants”. All young adults attending with your group are required to be on your Adult Chaperone Verification Form and inline with policies of the Diocese under the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People as they are legal adults.
Priests are very important to Steubenville Florida and a wonderful witness to our faith and the call for vocations. Therefore, we are requesting that every group make every effort possible to bring at least one priest. We are in great need for priests to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. So, we are offering FREE registration for any priest who attends the conference with their group, with the understanding that they assist with confession at the scheduled time. Priests are invited to concelebrate Mass Saturday morning and evening. Please bring your stole.
Although we strongly support Catholic family life, our staffing, facility constraints, and insurance regulations do not allow young children to be present at and/or attend the conference. In addition, the focus of the Group Leader/Adult Chaperones needs to be on the Youth participants. If these adults bring their own children, their focus will be split. However, if you have other family members who are not participants they are more than welcome to stay at the hotel and enjoy the amenities and local theme parks assumming they are properly supervised.

No. Understandably, it is very difficult to know exactly the number and names of those who will be attending. Thus, when registration opens, a group leader would reserve a block of spaces, pay the required deposit and then update the registration info with names as they become confirmed.
All information needs be finalized by July 11, 2023 at noon. This is the deadline for all participant data to be entered via the group leader portal.
This is NOT the deadline to add or drop spots.

- Log into your Group Leader Portal and click the “Add More Spots” Button.
- Simply email info@steubenvilleflorida.com to request more spots. We will then manually add more spots to your group. You can then send your additional participants the link that was provided in your confirmation email to enter this information.
The Group Leader can drop spots at anytime by emailing info@steubenvilleflorida.com. Please keep in mind the drop dates and financial penalties.
No. Steubenville Florida will only register youth that are part of a group with the proper number of chaperones. If you do not presently have a group please contact your parish to see if they are sending a group to Steubenville Florida.
Alternatively, you can check to see if neighboring parishes are sending young people to the conference. This would be a great opportunity to meet fantastic new people too!
If this is not feasible, feel free to consider creating your own group with a small group of friends or classmates, with parents or relatives as the group leader and/or chaperones.
